Dubai, 20 January 2025: Oriental Energy’s Okwok EMEM FPSO has reached an early significant milestone, recording one million manhours without a lost-time incident (LTI). This achievement involved an average of 663 personnel from various engineering firms, including Dubai Dry Docks and World Carrier.
The success is credited to bidirectional risk reduction mechanisms and a clear safety culture embedded throughout the 2024 integration and conversion stages of the FPSO’s procurement and construction. The leadership at Oriental Energy played a crucial role in ensuring that safety is prioritized at every level of the project, aligning all teams with a shared focus on risk reduction and hazard mitigation.
Iderimo Akene, Deputy EHS Manager at Oriental Energy speaking from the Dubai base, highlighted the company’s proactive approach to maintaining a strong safety chain on the project. “For us at Oriental Energy, Safety is Number One and first among our internal SPICE core values. From the leadership all the way down, performance standards were set across all teams, ensuring that safety procedures were followed without compromise. The entire team has been fully committed in line with disclosures, controls, interventions, and management systems in place to proactively mitigate concerns. At this critical phase of the FPSO’s construction, we are pleased that there has been no break in our safety chain and all lives are secured.”
Okwok Emem represents a landmark project for both Oriental Energy and Nigeria, being the first FPSO fully funded by an indigenous company. The asset is designed to increase local content opportunities and benefits to communities and country. With pre-commissioning and sailaway scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, Oriental Energy is positioned for continued success in the development of Okwok.
