Uyo, 10 December 2024: Oriental Energy Resources Limited (OERL) has redeemed its pledge to remodel the Teachers Quarters at Government Primary School, Ibuot Utan, Effiat community in Mbo Local Government Area in commitment to enhancing teachers’ welfare and quality education in Akwa Ibom state.

Founded 1990, OERL a Nigerian oil firm has current portfolio expanded to three assets offshore Nigeria including Ebok Field under Oil Mining Lease (OML) 67, Okwok Field (OML 67) and OML 115.

At the unveiling of the project Tuesday, Managing Director of the oil firm, Mr. Mustafa Indimi, told stakeholders that the pledge was made 18 August 2022 while handing over building and classrooms refurbishment, furniture and modern toilets for same school.

Represented by Dr. Uwem Ite, the company’s Head Community Relations, Indimi stated, “The overall goal of the remodelled Teacher’s Quarters equipped with solar-power, water and other fittings was to encourage retention of teachers posted to this school as well as increase the levels of educational attainment by young people in Effiat community.

“The two projects we have completed at this school are evident of our modest contribution toward achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 which focuses on ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promotion of life-long learning. This is yet another practical demonstration of OERL’s unwavering commitment to support education and human capital development in Effiat community, and Akwa Ibom State in general.

“To reaffirm earlier commitment to support provision of healthcare services in Effiat community, we have commenced the process which will lead to the rehabilitation, supply, and installation of equipment at the dilapidated facility located in Akwa Obio, Effiat.

“We will be collaborating with relevant community and government stakeholders in this regard. This will be our contribution to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages”.

The Head Teacher, Government Primary School, Ibuot Utan, Effiat, Mr Augustine Okon Effiong expressed the optimism that the upgraded Teachers Quarters would help them to effectively and efficiently carry out their roles as teachers in instructing and molding the character of the pupils.

“It is sad to state here that this facility that is being inaugurated today was vandalized by the community because of internal misunderstanding which could not be amicably settled.

“This attitude is barbaric, unproductive and does not promote growth of any place and therefore a reoccurrence should be seriously guarded against. I really appreciate OERL for considering it necessary to rehabilitate this facility for use. God bless them for the timely completion”

The Chairman, Mbo Local Government, Sunday Etim Okon and the state Commissioner for education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, in their respective goodwill messages, commended the oil firm for goodwill interventions that align with the A.R.I.S.E Agenda of Governor Umo Eno administration.
